Privacy policy
Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 20, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Leah Krabbenhoft, doing business as The Hungry Pixel ("The Hungry Pixel," "we," "us") collects, uses and shares personal information when you visit thehungrypixel.com, use our free tools, join our email list or contact us.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Pixel Hunger Test (quiz): your email address and your quiz answers, such as your monthly ad spend range and tracking challenges.
- Store Scan: the store web address you enter, plus your email address and first name if you unlock the full report.
- Newsletter: your email address.
- Contact and sales conversations: anything you send us by email, including your name, business name and details about your store.
Information collected automatically
When you visit the site, we and our partners collect device and usage information, such as IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, links clicked, the page that referred you, and approximate location based on IP address. We collect this using cookies, pixels and similar technologies (see section 5).
Information from public sources
When you request a Store Scan, our scanner visits the public pages of the store you entered to check which tracking tools are installed. It does not log in, place orders or collect personal information about that store's customers.
2. How we use your information
- To deliver what you asked for, such as quiz results, scan reports and emails.
- To send you marketing emails, such as tips, guides and offers. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email.
- To reply to you and to prepare quotes and audits.
- To understand how the site is used and to improve it.
- To measure our advertising and show our ads to people likely to be interested, including people who have visited our site.
- To protect the site, prevent abuse (for example, scan rate limits) and comply with the law.
3. Who we share information with
We do not sell your information for money. We share it with service providers that help us run the business:
|
Provider |
What it does for us |
|---|---|
|
Shopify |
Hosts our website |
|
Klaviyo |
Sends our emails and stores our email list |
|
Google (Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Google Ads) |
Site analytics, tag management and ad measurement |
|
Meta (Facebook and Instagram) |
Ad measurement and ad audiences |
|
Stape |
Hosts our server-side tagging, which sends site activity to Google and Meta from our own subdomain |
|
Fly.io |
Hosts our Store Scan tool |
|
ImprovMX |
Forwards email sent to our address |
When you sign up through one of our forms, we may send your email address and first name to Google and Meta in hashed (scrambled) form. This helps them match the sign-up to an ad click so we can measure our ads. We may also share information to comply with the law, protect our rights, or as part of a sale or merger of our business.
4. Advertising, "sharing" and your choices
Under some US state privacy laws, using Meta and Google advertising tools on our site may count as "sharing" personal information for targeted advertising, or as a "sale." You can opt out:
- through the privacy choices link or cookie banner on our site,
- by turning on Global Privacy Control in your browser, which we treat as an opt-out, or
- by emailing hello@thehungrypixel.com.
You can also adjust ad settings directly with Google and Meta.
5. Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies and pixels for site functionality, analytics (Google Analytics) and advertising (Google Ads and the Meta Pixel). Some of this data is sent through our own server-side tagging, hosted by Stape, before it reaches Google or Meta. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, analytics and advertising cookies stay off until you accept them in the cookie banner. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
6. How long we keep information
- Email list data: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it.
- Google Analytics data: up to 14 months.
- Store Scan results: kept briefly (up to about 6 hours) to avoid repeat scans, then discarded. Scan details sent with your email are kept with your email profile.
- Business emails and client records: as long as needed for the relationship and for legal, tax and accounting purposes.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or get a copy of your personal information, to opt out of targeted advertising, "sharing" or "sale," and to appeal our decision on a request. If you are in the EEA, UK or Switzerland, you may also object to or restrict processing, withdraw consent at any time, and complain to your local data protection authority.
To make a request, email hello@thehungrypixel.com. We may need to verify your identity, and we will not discriminate against you for using your rights.
Legal bases (EEA, UK and Switzerland): consent for marketing emails, analytics and advertising cookies; performance of a contract for delivering services and tools you request; and legitimate interests for site security and replying to inquiries.
8. International transfers
We are based in the United States, and our providers may process information in the US and other countries. Where required, we rely on safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
9. Security
We use reasonable safeguards, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), limited access and trusted providers. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
10. Client accounts and data
When a business hires us to set up its tracking, we may access its Shopify, Google, Meta or other accounts and the data inside them. We act on that client's behalf and follow its instructions, and the client agreement governs that data. If you are a customer of one of our clients, please contact that business directly.
11. Children
Our site and services are for businesses and are not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect their personal information.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. We will post the new version here with a new effective date.
